The Lopsided Animal

Would you believe me if I said that not all scissors are created equal? I’d believe me and despite the obvious, I’d say that there is a good chance that August would believe me too, haha. As clearly he is having some difficulties crafting there. Figure out what is going on and you’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of the debate raging below the surface in this week’s edition of the Adventures of August Winter! Not to mention it is the 75th comic in the series and I’m dedicating it to the strife of the Southpaw, much respect.

[Spoiler alert: Read comic first!] Okay, so you’ve been warned :) With that said, any lefties out there? If so, do you have any specific things in a right-handed dominated world that drives you crazy? Or have you had endless practice and embraced an ambidextrous skill set? As a right-hander myself, I want to thank & give special props to all those kind-hearted and generous lefties out there that put up with all my questions on the subject, haha. You know who you are, thank ya!

Any thoughts on, “are Polar Bears Left-handed??” Feel free to email on the subject or post in the comment section below. I do read all the comments and very much enjoy hearing from people on any manner of subject, haha. Polar Bears or left-handedness not required, but in this case welcomed!

For those interested in the subject and looking for some additional reading, checkout ‘The Left-Hander Syndrome’ by Stanley Coren, real good stuff.

This one touched on a topic near and dear to my heart, I’m a south paw myself! Grant’s right, can openers are like violins to us (to me anyway!) I love the last panel! So cute!

I know so many really creative/insightful people that are lefties it seems!! And whoa, I didn’t even think of how it would be with musical instruments… Haha, I’m right handed and sometimes I even have trouble with can openers! I actually really learned a lot by going through the process of researching this comic in particular. As there are so many things I take for granted that south paws have to come up with workarounds on a daily basis.

Do you favor those cans with the pull tops when you are at the grocery store picking stuff out? Do you throw a frisbee and bowl left-handed? Oh and what do you think about d-pads on controllers being left-handed? Is there a particular controller on any platform that stands out in your mind as being especially unfriendly to the left-handed folks among us? For me the N64 controller was always kinda strangely positioned with the three hand grips on it. And I might get flamed for this, but I was never hugely fond of the original Genesis/Mega Drive controller.

      Good stuff Georgia!

Congratulations on 75 wonderful comics!! It’s interesting, I have never given much thought to the issues left handed people deal with. Being a right handed person myself I cannot do anything with my left hand, its so awkward! Sitting next to a lefty in school was always funny because they would bump you when writing :) . Some great facts too about lefties that you secretly included in there haha.

I had to look up polar bears after I read this and from what I can see they actually use both paws- there was a myth out there that they were left pawed, but apparently they use both paws equally so they are ambidextrous. (Or would that be ambipawed?!). I couldn’t believe there was actually research done on this subject but there was haha.

What I would like to know is do polar bears eat brownies? :)

Congrats again on your 75th comic, very cool achievement indeed :)

Much appreciated, now if only I can come up with material for 75 more :) Know my thinking cap is around here somewhere (looks under the pile of papers on desk, ah yes, here it is!) Take that feeling of when you try and do something with your left-hand and then map that feeling in reverse to what it must be like for a lefty everyday! Kind of boggles the mind a bit actually. I find even holding a phone in my left-hand is weird, haha.

Perhaps more study is needed whether or not polar bears are left-pawed, because I wonder what the control was for the research they did? What if they found the world’s most talented left & right pawed polar bear by mere chance? And it was like juggling and using utensils and stuff? haha. As for whether they eat brownies, hmm! Could bears operate an easy bake oven? Suppose we could interview Yogi Bear and ask him what his distant cousins living to the North prefer in pic-a-nic baskets that they come across?

All I know is that now I want a brownie, thanks! haha.
