Definitely good creative fodder for descriptive writing in the tradition of a Patrick Rothfuss (Whom I hope is able to return to writing again someday, along with George R R Martin). For that matter, I’m sure there are a few readers out there that would also like me to get back to publishing some new work. Writing block really is a thing and I can only imagine the pressure when your earlier works have been worldwide successes. The weight of such expectations must be incredible…

In those moments, turning to the sky and seeing the scale of the world and universe outside of yourself can help minimize the gravity of your worries in comparison. But it certainly doesn’t make a ‘genius’ story arc spring to mind, haha. Believe me, I’ve tried it!

The 21st dilemma for artists seems to be what creative pursuits mean in the age of AI. I really hope it becomes another tool that allows beautiful things to be created and new boundaries of imagination explored. Right now it feels like it has stolen the magic of artistry and creativity a bit by commoditizing it and turning the process of writing or drawing to a game of prompts and tokens. While that democratizes things – in that it allows anyone with an idea to create – it removes the thoughtfulness and originality of the vision in your minds eye.

I’ve heard it described as ‘AI slop’, but I personally don’t look at it that way as early creations have been pretty darn amazing. I just don’t know where I personally fit into this new creative world yet. But maybe people felt like that too with the switch to the digital world and computer art over the last handful of decades. As mediums shifted and the amount of people who could engage with the world of design and writing expanded massively.

Its never been easier to write a book, create a piece of art, or release an album of original music. The flip side of that is that the playing field is now dramatically more crowded and loud. I have to think that excellence will still rise to the top.

Is there any artwork or literature that you’ve seen/read in the AI era that you would say is a masterpiece? I’d be curious to checkout some examples from other people’s perspective. I’ve seen a lot of AI writing samples, listened to AI generated music, and come across a ton of AI animation/video clips of pop culture moments. And a lot of it is remarkable and so innovative. I wonder what it will look like a year or five years from now?

It does seem like short form content is improving, but long form content is floundering.

What’s your read on it?

~ CS

FEBRUARY 2026 – Mother nature has really been flexing her might this winter, with mountains of snow and frigid temperatures here in the Northeast.
